Rapé Velandinho

Price range: $90,000 through $130,000

Rapé Velandinho is prepared by hand with rustic Amazonian tobacco and Velandinho.

At Ancestrina, we associate it with protection and energetic cleansing, especially when we feel exposed to particularly dense environments, encounters or outside burdens.

Within traditional language, it is also associated with protection from what is called the “evil eye”.

What makes Rapé Velandinho distinct

There are places we leave feeling different, conversations that leave us weighed down and environments in which we sense tension. After some encounters, we feel we are still carrying something we do not entirely recognize as our own.

For us, Velandinho belongs to that territory: recognizing how the spaces and relationships we inhabit affect us, and distinguishing what feels ours from what we feel we have picked up along the way.

What am I carrying after this encounter? What changes in me when I enter certain spaces? What do I need to release to return to my own center?

How we understand it

At Ancestrina, we associate Velandinho with protection and deep energetic cleansing.

Some people use the word energy to describe a bodily feeling. Others speak of atmosphere, presence, vibration or heaviness. Various traditions also use concepts such as energetic influences, envy or the evil eye.

Whatever language we use, encounters and spaces can affect us deeply.

For us, Velandinho occupies this territory of protection: recognizing our energetic boundaries and returning to ourselves after intense experiences.

In our ceremonial reading, cleansing means releasing what we feel we are still carrying: after accompanying someone, after a ceremony, after being in a difficult environment, after conflict, or simply when we feel a heaviness we want to leave behind.

Historically, we have also associated Velandinho with the “evil eye”. We keep that term because it belongs to the traditional language many cultures use for certain kinds of influence, envy or outside burden.

We do not associate Velandinho with a specific chakra. Its territory crosses them: protection, boundaries and cleansing of the energetic field.

This also distinguishes it from nearby varieties. Alfavaca speaks of cleansing, closure and returning to our center after an experience. Pixuri concerns frequency and the direction of our own energy. Tsunu concerns the flow of energetic channels. Velandinho emphasizes what we feel comes from outside and our capacity to cleanse and protect our own space.

Origin and Production

Ancestrina’s rapés are made directly by elders of the Marubo, Munduruku, and Yanomami tribes in Brazil, with whom we maintain a direct relationship.

These preparations are made for Ancestrina based on each community’s traditional knowledge. When a variety contains tobacco, the tobacco used is rustic Amazonian tobacco grown by the communities themselves.

Each rapé retains its ingredients, but it does not follow an industrial formula with identical proportions. The quantities may vary from one batch to another depending on the knowledge and intuition of the Mayor who prepares it.
