What makes Rapé Jurema distinct

Loving someone does not begin only when we meet the other person. It also has to do with our relationship with ourselves: what we believe we deserve, our ability to receive, the boundaries we can hold and how much we need someone else in order to feel that we have worth.

For us, Jurema opens the territory of the heart.

What happens to me when I love? Can I open up to someone without abandoning myself? Can I receive love without feeling I must earn it? Can I love without trying to control?

How we understand it

At Ancestrina, we call Jurema the Rapé of the heart. We associate it first with our ability to stay close to ourselves while building bonds with others.

For us, self love means staying close to ourselves while building a relationship with someone else. It means being able to enter a bond without asking the other person to carry our entire sense of worth.

It also means being able to receive: allowing someone to care for us, letting closeness in, recognizing when a wound, fear or expectation enters the relationship and beginning to look at our part in it.

In our energetic reading, we associate Jurema with the fourth chakra, a territory we relate to the heart, bonds, love, the capacity to give and receive and our way of remaining open without disappearing into another person.

That is why couple relationships hold an important place in our reading of Jurema. They can show with great clarity how we love, what we expect, what we fear losing and which parts of ourselves appear when we are deeply connected to someone.

Jurema invites us to return to the heart and look from there at the way we love.

Origin and Production

Ancestrina’s rapés are made directly by elders of the Marubo, Munduruku, and Yanomami tribes in Brazil, with whom we maintain a direct relationship.

These preparations are made for Ancestrina based on each community’s traditional knowledge. When a variety contains tobacco, the tobacco used is rustic Amazonian tobacco grown by the communities themselves.

Each rapé retains its ingredients, but it does not follow an industrial formula with identical proportions. The quantities may vary from one batch to another depending on the knowledge and intuition of the Mayor who prepares it.
