At Ancestrina, we associate it with our ability to stand up for our place, set boundaries, assert ourselves and reclaim our voice when we have learned to put ourselves last.

Historically, we have called it “the Rapé of defenses”: a way of naming our capacity to care for ourselves and remain on our own side in our relationships.

Inga invites us to observe where we are yielding what we need to protect within ourselves.

What makes Rapé Inga distinct

For us, Inga speaks of standing up for ourselves.

Standing up for ourselves does not always mean confronting someone. Often it means being able to say no, set a boundary, express what we need or stop accepting what makes us feel small.

There are times when, to care for a relationship, avoid conflict or support others, we begin to move ourselves aside.

We give way once. Then again. Until we can no longer recognize where our own voice went.

Inga invites us to return to that place.

Where do I need to set a boundary? Where am I holding back what I need to say? Where am I abandoning myself to avoid making someone else uncomfortable?

How we understand it

In our reading of Inga, defenses speak of our capacity to care for ourselves and stand up for what matters to us.

Setting a boundary. Asserting ourselves. Saying what we need to say. No longer putting ourselves last. Recognizing when helping someone begins to mean abandoning ourselves.

In our energetic reading, we associate Inga with the fourth chakra, the territory of the heart.

For us, the heart does not speak only of opening ourselves to others. It also speaks of remaining on our own side as we love, support others and build relationships.

Inga reminds us that caring for others does not require us to disappear.

Origin and Production

Ancestrina’s rapés are made directly by elders of the Marubo, Munduruku, and Yanomami tribes in Brazil, with whom we maintain a direct relationship.

These preparations are made for Ancestrina based on each community’s traditional knowledge. When a variety contains tobacco, the tobacco used is rustic Amazonian tobacco grown by the communities themselves.

Each rapé retains its ingredients, but it does not follow an industrial formula with identical proportions. The quantities may vary from one batch to another depending on the knowledge and intuition of the Mayor who prepares it.
