Rapé Copaiba

Price range: $100,000 through $160,000

Rapé Copaiba is prepared by hand with rustic Amazonian tobacco and ash obtained from Copaiba bark.

At Ancestrina, we associate it with the shadow: parts of ourselves that we reject, hide or do not yet know how to integrate.

Copaiba invites us to approach difficult emotions with less judgment, recognize what is also part of us and broaden the way we understand ourselves.

What makes Rapé Copaiba distinct

Not everything we are is easy for us to look at.

There are emotions we would rather not feel. Reactions that make us uncomfortable. Desires we judge. Parts of our history that we try to leave behind. And versions of ourselves that do not fit the image we would like to hold.

For us, Copaiba speaks of coming into contact with that shadow.

For us, coming into contact with the shadow means seeing it, recognizing it as part of our experience and deciding what we want to do with it.

What part of myself am I trying to deny? What emotion is difficult for me to recognize as my own? What changes when I can look at something without needing to immediately push it away?

How we understand it

At Ancestrina, we associate Copaiba with the shadow and emotional integration.

For us, the shadow is what we have not yet fully recognized as our own experience. It may appear as anger, fear, envy, shame, desire, a need for control, vulnerability, or any other part of ourselves we have learned to hide, reject or judge.

For us, integrating means recognizing what exists and deciding how we want to relate to it. What we do not want to look at can still play a part in our decisions, relationships and reactions.

Copaiba invites us to approach those parts with greater presence: to observe them, ask where they come from, recognize what they are trying to protect and decide what we want to do with them.

In our energetic reading, we associate Copaiba with the second chakra, a territory we relate to the emotional world, desire, inner movement and our capacity to let what we feel move without immediately denying it.

That is why this association makes sense to us: Copaiba speaks less of controlling an emotion than of being able to meet it.

While Mulungu approaches sadness, Cacto grief and Huasca what needs expression, Copaiba occupies another place: recognizing what we would rather not find within ourselves and discovering that integrating our experience also means being able to look at those parts.

Origin and Production

Ancestrina’s rapés are made directly by elders of the Marubo, Munduruku, and Yanomami tribes in Brazil, with whom we maintain a direct relationship.

These preparations are made for Ancestrina based on each community’s traditional knowledge. When a variety contains tobacco, the tobacco used is rustic Amazonian tobacco grown by the communities themselves.

Each rapé retains its ingredients, but it does not follow an industrial formula with identical proportions. The quantities may vary from one batch to another depending on the knowledge and intuition of the Mayor who prepares it.
