Rapé Jenipapo

Price range: $100,000 through $160,000

Rapé Jenipapo is prepared by hand with rustic Amazonian tobacco and bark from the Jenipapo tree.

At Ancestrina, we associate it with recognizing our own worth: observing how we see ourselves, what we believe we deserve and where we have learned to make ourselves small.

Jenipapo invites us to recover a more dignified relationship with ourselves and recognize what is already within us without constantly needing to prove it.

What makes Rapé Jenipapo distinct

The way we see ourselves changes how we live our lives.

We may have abilities, resources, sensitivity and strength, yet still relate to ourselves from a sense of inadequacy.

Feeling that something is missing. Comparing ourselves. Seeking constant confirmation from others. Doubting our own place.

For us, Jenipapo speaks of recognizing our own worth.

What do I see when I look at myself? What do I need others to recognize before I can recognize it myself? Where am I diminishing who I am?

Composition

  • Base: Rustic Amazonian tobacco
  • Ingredient accompanying the tobacco: Bark from the Jenipapo tree
  • Origin: Brazil

The use of the bark was passed on directly by the Elders with whom Ancestrina works.

How we understand it

At Ancestrina, we associate Jenipapo with how we perceive ourselves: not only what we think we do well, but the place from which we recognize ourselves.

There is a difference between knowing intellectually that we have worth and living from that recognition.

When we constantly depend on others’ approval, recognition or gaze, our own perception can fall into the background.

Jenipapo invites us to look within, recognize abilities we may have minimized, observe the judgments we direct at ourselves and ask how much of our identity we have built by comparing ourselves with someone else.

For us, self esteem means being able to see ourselves clearly enough to recognize who we are, what we have and what we are still building without becoming our own adversaries.

In our energetic reading, we associate Jenipapo with the third chakra, a territory we relate to self esteem, personal power, the will and our ability to occupy our place without constantly needing others to confirm it.

That is Jenipapo’s territory for Ancestrina: recognizing our own worth and learning to remain on our own side.

Origin and Production

Ancestrina’s rapés are made directly by elders of the Marubo, Munduruku, and Yanomami tribes in Brazil, with whom we maintain a direct relationship.

These preparations are made for Ancestrina based on each community’s traditional knowledge. When a variety contains tobacco, the tobacco used is rustic Amazonian tobacco grown by the communities themselves.

Each rapé retains its ingredients, but it does not follow an industrial formula with identical proportions. The quantities may vary from one batch to another depending on the knowledge and intuition of the Mayor who prepares it.
