The excretions of the parathyroid glands of toads of the Bufo Alvarius variety are used, which are left to dry to be smoked with a crystallized pipe. The Bufo Alvarius toad inhabits the Sonoran desert where it lives buried and only comes out in the winter months, the season in which they are taken to extract their medicine.
For the Noke Kuin ceremony of the Kambo
It is propitiated with the secretions of the poison located in the mucous membranes of the frog’s skin, extracted with a bamboo branch and allowed to dry for handling. The ritual of purification or spiritual cleansing begins with the application of a superficial wound that allows the Kambo to be absorbed by the skin once it comes into contact with the circulatory system.

The ritual must be performed at the beginning of the morning or before dawn, and the participant must previously drink a caicuma drink, based on unfermented yucca, or a liter of water. With a twig of or titica of a vine, the skin is burned leaving a certain number of points where the Kambo medicine will be applied. Both medicines, both Bufo Alvarius and Kambo, have a series of physiological effects on the body that range from increased heartbeat, decreased blood pressure, sweating, dizziness, delirium, among others.
In the case of Bufo Alvarius we speak of a psychoactive substance with high visionary effects that provide states of amplified consciousness revealing to the psyche, and in the case of Kambo medicine it is a topical substance with bioactive physiological effects that provide calm, purity, catharsis and a regenerating experience.
